Silver Falls races open for registration August 1

Get ready, get set ... register!

The Silver Falls Marathon and Half Marathon, one of the most popular trail races in Oregon, opens for online registration at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Anyone hoping to take part should consider being ready. The races, which include a seven mile race ($35 entry), half marathon ($45), marathon ($55 entry) and 50 kilometer ultra marathon ($65), all take place Nov. 7 and 8 at the state park east of Salem.

"The half marathon usually sells out in a matter of hours," race director Gary Terlecki said.

The race's popularity is easy to understand. The course weaves around and behind the collection of 100-foot cascades on Silver Falls State Park's Trail of Ten Falls.

The race is more challenging than the average marathon or half-marathon. Following trails throughout the park, the course requires runners to gain and lose significant amount of elevation.
