Hit-and-run kills woman in wheelchair

Oregon State Police have tracked down a driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit and run crash near Sheridan Thursday morning.

Tom Mishler, 81, of Sheridan, struck Connie Nickeson, 66, of Sheridan, in her wheelchair around 7 a.m. near milepost 5 on highway 18B.

Witnesses told police that Mishler stopped his 2006 Pontiac Vibe momentarily then left the scene.

First responders pronounced Nickeson dead at the scene.

OSP said Mishler is cooperating with investigators, but they still do not know why he left. They do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

OSP closed highway 18B for five hours while it conducted its investigation.
