Letter: Goss-Evans debate was worth watching

SAL

I was sorry to hear that Kathy Goss has canceled all further debates with Paul Evans.

Obviously, comparing candidates’ positions on the issues and seeing how they handle themselves in the public forum is very important.

I was at the debate between Paul and Kathy. Paul was an absolute gentleman, giving intelligent and succinct answers to all of the hand-picked questions given by the moderator representing Americans for Prosperity, the group that sponsored the debate. The audience was not allowed to ask questions.

Paul was never condescending. I think that Kathy, having never run for any office before, did not know what to expect in a real debate. It is not condescending to point out how the other candidate is incorrect in their position if that is what you believe.

I know the debate was recorded; I sincerely hope it will be shown on CCTV so that everyone can come to their own conclusion as to how Paul and Kathy handled themselves.

Finally, I have to admit there was a rather loud groan that went up from the audience when Kathy said that, unlike President Obama, she did not believe in Sharia law. Otherwise, the audience showed amazing restraint.
