Salem students marched around downtown Friday in an impromptu protest march.

About 100 teens marched through the streets of downtown Salem Friday afternoon in protest of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

One of the teens said they staged a walkout from several Salem area high schools and planned to end their march with a sit-in at the Capitol steps.

Two Salem police officers flanked the protesters on bicycles as they walked along Court Street NE around 12:30 p.m. The officers said they were not aware of the protest beforehand but were called in to maintain peace and keep the crowd from getting too rowdy.

Teens held signs promoting Bernie Sanders, some scrawled obscenities about Trump on posters and others shouted anti-Trump chants.

Protesters dispersed around 1 p.m.
