Oregon State men's soccer player John Chambers died Friday night at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, OSU officials announced Saturday.

Sprague graduate John Chambers played one season on the Oregon State men's soccer team.

Chambers, a Sprague High School graduate, would have been a sophomore this fall at OSU. He played in four games last season as a freshman for the Beavers, including three starts.

"My heart aches for John's family," OSU men's soccer coach Steve Simmons said in a statement. "His impact on our lives cannot be measured. We are all better people for having John in our lives."

Due to HIPAA privacy laws, information about the cause of death is currently not available.

Chambers was a captain at Sprague as a senior in 2014 and a first-team all-Greater Valley Conference selection. He played defender at OSU.

West Salem boys soccer coach Eddy Soboll, who was Sprague's coach during Chambers' senior year, called Chambers "absolutely incredible, not just as a player, but as a person."

"Everyone within OSU athletics and the greater Oregon State University community mourns the loss of John Chambers," OSU athletic director Todd Stansbury said in a statement. "Please keep John's memory and his family, friends, teammates and coaches in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. John was a wonderful person and respected student-athlete, who represented the university and Beaver Nation with class. He will be greatly missed."

Information regarding memorial services will be provided when available.
