A couple has donated 107 acres along the Willamette River to Willamette Riverkeeper.

Property owners have donated 107 acres of riverfront land along the Willamette River to Willamette Riverkeeper. The property, called the Nicol Sanctuary and located in Yamhill County, was donated by Gorham and Robin Nicol, who have been involved with the site since 1998.

“This is a beautiful tract of riverside land that will support native wildlife and low impact recreation," said Willamette Riverkeeper executive director Travis Williams. "The property also has some wonderful restoration potential for floodplain forest.”

Williams said the site will only be accessible from the river. The campsite, which will be low-impact, is expected to be available in March. Plans for trails and floodplain forest restoration will be developed in coming months.
