Keizer man sentenced to 29 years in prison for raping girl

A Keizer man was sentenced to 29 years in prison after a Marion County jury convicted him of raping and sexually abusing a young girl.

Sean Michael Johnson, 40, was arrested in April 2016 on eight Measure 11 rape, sex abuse and sodomy charges.

In 2014, his victim, who was under the age of 7 at the time of the abuse, disclosed to an Oregon Department of Human Services caseworker that she had been raped by Johnson, according to court records.

DHS forwarded the report to Keizer Police Department, and a detective began investigating the abuse.

A few months after receiving the report, a Marion County grand jury indicted Johnson, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers were unable to locate Johnson until April 2016, when he was involved in a domestic dispute.

Prosecutors said Johnson had a previous criminal record in Florida.

During his September trial, a jury found Johnson not guilty of two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. The jury remained deadlocked on the remaining two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree rape.

A second trial was scheduled for April. Following the four-day trial, a jury found him guilty on all four counts.

On Wednesday, Marion County Judge Donald Abar sentenced Johnson to a total of 29 years in prison. He was also sentenced to 100 years of post-prison supervision. Upon his release, Johnson will be required to register as a sex offender.
